What is the Employee Free Choice Act?
The Employee Free choice Act would enable working people to bargain for better benefits, wages and working conditions by restoring workers’ freedom to choose for themselves whether to join a union. It would:

*Strengthen penalties against employers who violate a worker's right to join or form a union.
*Guarantee that workers achieve a first contract.
*Allow employees to form unions when a majority (50% +1 ) sign cards authorizing union representation.

The Employee Free Choice Act was introduced into the 111th Congress on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 by principal author Congressman George Miller and so-sponsor Senator Tom Harkin. Supported in 2007 by a bipartisan coalition in Congress.
